The Longhorn Mitigation Site is a buffer restoration project that will provide high quality compensatory mitigation for
authorized buffer impacts credited through the NC DIMS in -lieu fee program. The site is located just east of US Highway
311 and is bounded to the south by Marlboro Church Rd. The project will restore and protect woody buffer along an
unnamed tributary (UT) of Bob Branch in the Randleman Lake Watershed. Restoration will occur through the
conversion of existing cattle pasture into wooded riparian buffer zones along the existing stream channel and pond via
planting of characteristic hardwood species and installation of cattle exclusion fencing.
DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED EROSION CONTROL
The proposed erosion control plan is designed to protect the UT to Bob's Branch from the transport of sediment as a
result of the proposed buffer restoration activities. Since the proposed activities are minimally invasive in nature, silt
fence and silt fence outlets are proposed as the primary method for sediment containment. Land disturbance
associated with this project largely includes disking and other tilling practices to prepare the current pastures for
hardwood planting in the buffer areas. Also, as part of this project, the outlet structure of the existing pond will be
upgraded to improve long-term functionality. All sediment and erosion control practices will be in compliance with
current DEMLR requirements.
