The Stream Management Zone, Zone 1 (0 -10 feet from the top of the stream bank) and Zone 2 (10 — 30 feet from the top of the stream bank) was replanted on March 12, 2020. At the time of replanting, both areas were measured by GPS and contain approximately 13,000 square foot or 0.30 acres. Three native hardwood species were hand planted; they are Swamp Chesnutt Oak, Bald Cypress and Swamp Blackgum also known as Tupelo Gum. Requirements are that 260 trees/acre survive at maturity, which will be 78 trees in the 0.30 acre area. We increased tree count above requirements, planting on 8' x 10' spacing which resulted in a density of 544 tress per acre or 163 trees in the area. As required, the area will be inspected each year, through year 2025 to insure that 260 trees per acre will be provided at maturity. The survival count results will be submitted in writing to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Resources, Washington Regional Office by June 1 of each year as required.
