Now more than ever our community will need to create investments in infrastructure that will
help create jobs. This COVID-19 crisis reminds us that we need a diversified economic
base. Having new manufacturing sites enabled by the proposed French Broad River crossing
creates the opportunity to attract high -wage jobs and would be a critical investment in
growing our manufacturing sector in Buncombe County. The average wage rates in Buncombe
County and across Western North Carolina have lagged behind the statewide average for
decades. Strategic investments to build a diversified economy can make such a difference and
help us close that gap. The proposed infrastructure investment in the new French Broad River
crossing can help facilitate job creation the in a primary economic corridor in Buncombe
County.
As a native of Buncombe County, as a business owner and as a board member of the Asheville
Area Chamber of Commerce, I support the proposed French Broad River Crossing.
