Neal WTP), yesterday to discuss the violations on their Copper discharges. Mr. Culp informed me that they would try to attack the issue in a Three -fold approach to try and reduce the copper levels: 1. The City is seeking to remove the sludge from the sludge lagoon. He has contacted contractors, and is waiting on their response. 2. The City will reduce the amount of copper sulfate they use to combat the algal blooms. 3. The City may look into adding a coagulant such as Alum (at very low dosages) to bind phosphate to prevent algal blooms from occurring in their off stream reservoir. 4. The City is also looking at installing Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) to combat any taste and odor complaints in the event another algal bloom does occur. Thanks for the information on the copper exceedances, I think the City is moving in the right direction, and seeking multiple ways to mitigate copper.
