Inspection Summary:
Mikal Willmer, with the Asheville Regional Office, conducted a review of the City of Marion's Surface Disposal Unit's 2019
annual report. The no application report appears to be in compliance. This site is not permitted to accept additional residuals
and is detailed below.
This surface disposal permit was issued retroactively and has been implemented as a post closure plan. The 10 pits have
been listed as "closed" since 2002. Currently four monitoring wells are installed and sampled on a semi-annual basis. The
City has been working with Hydrogeologist, Brett Laverty, to obtain representative and accurate low flow samples. Please
note, the City should remain in continued communication regarding progress on obtaining and implementing accurate
low-flow sampling procedures. Additionally, please continue to keep the ARO apprised of any plans that may impact the
current state of the surface disposal site.
