The facility is located at 634 Christian Chapel Church Road, New Hill, NC 27562 and consists of approximately 51 acres of which 10 acres are being used in the composting operation. The site consists of the processing building, unloading pad, screening and curing operations. Primary composting and primary screening takes place under roof on concrete floors and is not exposed to stormwater during processing. Post composting curing takes place on a pad adjacent to the processing buildings, final screening of cured product also takes place on this pad. Finished compost is stored in bulk next to the final screening plant. A site map is located in site manager's office. No significant spills have occurred on the property in the previous three years. Stormwater Management Plan: The concrete unloading pad is sloped to move rainwater and feedstocks into the processing building; this eliminates stormwater contamination from the unloading pad. Stormwater is directed by grading away from the screening and curing areas along a vegetated berm through filter socks and rock check dams into the sediment basins located on site. Spill Prevention and Response Plan: Sawdust and woodchips are kept on hand in the event that a spill did occur on site. Spilled materials would be mopped up with sawdust or wood chips and placed into the plant for processing or taken off site if appropriate. Preventative Maintenance and Good Housekeeping Program: Good housekeeping requires facility personnel to maintain cleanliness and order in areas that could cause storm water contamination. The following is a list of practices that are used: • Keep outside areas neat and orderly • Clean up any spilled materials promptly • Fix leaks on onsite equipment and inspect equipment daily • Pick up wind blown debris • Maintain absorbent materials (sawdust, wood chips) McGill -Merry Oaks 1 (0) 919-362-1161 1 (F) 919-362-1141 1 www.mcgillcompost.com 634 Christian Chapel Church Rd I New Hill, NC 27562 MCIG - - The compost people° Employee Training: Employee training is conducted annually that will include the following topics: • Good housekeeping practices • Spill prevention and response • Facility drainage features • Other site observations related to stormwater pollution prevention Responsible Party: Steve Cockman (919-542-8903) is the site manager and is responsible for the daily operations of the Merry Oaks site. SPPP Amendment: No amendments have been made as of this date. Facility Inspection: Facility inspections are done quarterly and a log of these inspections shall be maintained on site. I have included February 13, 2013 and March 27, 2013 communications, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, and Quarterly Stormwater Discharge Monitoring report. As we collect more sampling results we will determine what if any BMP's will be needed to meet the requirements of our permit. Some of the BMP's we will be considering include increasing permanent vegetative cover, additional rock checks and filter socks and improving our outfall sampling points with respect to safety, accessibility and sample integrity. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
