Subject: Semi -Annual Stormwater Discharge Monitoring Report
Dear Bethany:
Enclosed please find the Semi Annual Stormwater Discharge Monitoring Report for Archer
Daniels Midland Company (ADM) located in Southport, Brunswick County, North Carolina.
Outfall 001— Oil & Grease
ADM reviewed the February 20, 2020 analytical results and after investigation, has determined
56.9 mg/L is not a valid sampling result for the Oil & Grease Value for Outfall 001. The TSS &
COD were very low, and the appearance was clear without a sheen with no indication of oil or
grease being present. Upon receiving the laboratory results on March 4, 2020, we inspected the
storm water conveyance system for Outfall 001 and found no possible cause for an elevated oil &
grease result.
Subsequently, the next measurable storm event occurred the day after receiving the results, so
we pulled qualitative and analytical samples from Outfall 001 on March 5, 2020. The Oil &
Grease (analyzed by the same external Laboratory and method) was <5 mg/L Below the
Detection Limit. Table 1 has been included to provide an Oil & Grease "historical perspective"
for Outfall 001.The historical perspective consistently indicates "Below the Detection Limit" for
Oil & Grease for all the past seven (7) monitoring periods.

Given the above investigation, ADM has determined the February 20, 2020 sample for Outfall
001 is not a valid sampling result and thus does not qualify for a Tier One Response. The
sample collected on March 5, 2020 for Outfall 001 is considered the first valid sampling result
for Outfall 001 for Period 1 of the 2020 sampling year and was in compliance with all benchmark
values.

All permits require qualitative monitoring to be performed during a "measurable storm event."
A "measurable storm event" is a storm event that results in an actual discharge from the permitted site
outfall. The previous measurable storm event must have been at least 72 hours prior. The 72-hour storm
interval does not apply if the permittee is able to document that a shorter interval is representative for
local storm events during the sampling period, and the permittee obtains approval from the local DEMLR
Regional Office.
By this signature, I certify that this report is accurate and complete to the best of lny knowledge:
