MTBE has been detected in the terminal's outfalls during the past year only on an intermittent basis. With continued monitoring and implementation of the MTBE Reduction Plan, it is believed that any presence of MTBE in discharges will continue to be at acceptable levels. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at (704) 399-5696. Sincerely, Robert E. Gaston Terminal Superintendent ExxonMobil Charlotte Terminal MTBE Reduction Plan The ExxonMobil Charlotte Terminal has installed carbon adsorption systems as a means of treating waters prior to discharge via permitted outfalls. The following steps are identified as the terminal's MTBE Reduction Plan and are designed to reduce the level of MTBE in its discharges: • Carbon bed change-out will occur at a minimum of once every six months for each carbon vessel. • The results of MTBE monitoring samples will be reviewed by terminal personnel and/or consulting personnel working on behalf of ExxonMobil to determine the effectiveness of the carbon systems. • When warranted by MTBE sample results, adjustment to carbon system operations will be made and may consist of such items as a change in the frequency of carbon beds replacement, adjustment to the volume flow rate, etc. This plan shall be reviewed periodically by terminal personnel for effectiveness and updated as deemed necessary. 20 Sj1Kj 50URCE BnriL'""'
