9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The applicants property is located 707 Chadwick Shores Drive, within the Chadwick Shores Subdivision, near
Sneads Ferry, in Onslow County. The property is located adjacent Fullard Creek. To find the property from
the intersection of Old Folkstone Road (NCSR 1518) and US Highway 17, travel east on Old Folkstone Road
approximately 4 miles to NC Highway 210. Travel across NC Highway 210 approximately 1.6 miles to
Chadwick Acres Road (NCSR 1553). Turn right on Chadwick Acres Road and go approximately 0.8 miles to
Chadwick Shores Drive. Turn left into Chadwick Shores and stay to the left. Follow Chadwick Shores Drive
to 707.
The high ground property is a residential lot measuring approximately 170' wide by approximately 180' deep,
and encompasses approximately 0.85 acres. The elevation of the property averages approximately 4' above
normal high water. There is a single family residential dwelling under construction on the lot. An existing pier
on the lot was rebuilt recently under CAMA General Permit No. 30308-D and 28223-D.
The lot has approximately 180' of shoreline along Fullard Creek which is tributary to Chadwick Bay. High
ground vegetation includes lawn grasses, Southern Wax Myrtle (Myrica cerifera), Willow (Salix spp.) Hickory
(Carya spp.), Loblolly Pine (Pinus Taeda), and Live Oak (Quercus virginiana). The existing pier consists of a
6' wide walkway extending approximately 170' into Fullard Creek. At the waterward end of the structure is a
10.5' wide by 30' long platform. Adjacent to the platform is a 13' wide by 13' long boat lift , (this structure
was permitted to be covered with a 14' by 28' boat house, however construction of the roof area has not
begun). Also existing is a 2' wide by 15' long finger pier and a 2' wide by 27' long finger pier on the outer
end of the structure.
Fullard Creek measures approximately 1,400' across at the applicant's property. The waters of Fullard Creek
are classified "SA" by the Division of Water Quality. The area of Fullard Creek at the applicant's property is
not designated as a Primary Nursery Area and is open to the taking of shellfish. The upper end of Fullard
Creek, just west of the applicant's property is designated as a Primary Nursery Area.
The applicant is proposing to construct additional deck and boat house area to the existing dock structure. The
deck addition would be to the west side of the existing 10.5' by 30' "T" head and would measure 10.5' wide
by 12' long, creating a total "T" head area of 441 sq. ft. The covered boat lift would be expanded from 14' by
28' to 14' by 40', or a total roof area of 560 sq. ft.. Also proposed is a 2' wide by 12' long extension to the
existing middle finger pier or catwalk. Water depths at the end of the structures would be approximately -2.5'
at low tide. The structure could provide docking space for up to three vessels.
10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS
The proposed boat house and dock expansion. would result in the incorporation of an additional 318 sq. ft. of
public trust area within Fullard Creek. The total offshore distance of the structure would remain the same.
Minor increases in turbidity can be expected during piling installation.
