The Terrible Creek site (NCEEP as built restoration site) includes Neuse buffer restoration. According to the mitigation
report, 45.6 acres of buffer were restored along one bank of Terrible Creek and several unnamed tributaries to Terrible Creek.
Buffer width was variable but was greater than 50 feet in all areas evaluated. This site is "grandfathered" for generating
riparian buffer mitigation credit out to 200 feet along one side of Terrible Creek, which is subject to the buffer rule. Julie
Ventaloro and Amy from DWQ and Jessica Kemp from NC EEP were present during this site visit.
The site is in its third year of monitoring. There was no available monitoring report to review.
In areas where trees were growing, adequate tree growth and diversity were observed.
It was confirmed by Jessica Kemp of NC EEP that herbicide was being applied on a routine basis in the protected buffer.
The conservation easement was not marked at the time of the site visit.
ITEMS TO ADDRESS:
The site will likely require supplemental plantings due to the excessive fescue growth.
The conservation easement must be clearly marked.
You must immediately cease applying herbicide in the protected buffer.
Please submit all monitoring reports for years 1-3 to DWQ.
