Joanne,
This email will serve as a follow up to our conversation earlier this afternoon. I understand that you are reviewing the
water quality permit for the subject project. You asked how we will be addressing potentially contaminated water
generated as part of the project. All water generated as a result of excavation dewatering will be handled in accordance
with our discharge permit from the Cape Fear Public Utilities Authority. This permit requires that the water be
containerized on-site and batch released to the sanitary sewer system following sampling, analysis and approval by
CFPUA. Based on preliminary data provided to CFPUA, the need for pre-treatment is not currently anticipated; however,
we will be prepared to implement pre-treatment such as filtration and/or carbon adsorption, if necessary. In
accordance with our approved E&S control plan, we will limit the contact of stormwater with exposed contaminated
materials by limiting the area of exposed excavation at any given time and through the use of run-on/run-off controls.
Stormwater that does contact potentially contaminated materials will be collected within the excavation and addressed
as part of the excavation dewatering described above.
