Please find att ched a modification to the aforementioned CAMA Major Permit. As you may
recall, this per it was issued on March 22, 2000, as a blanket authorization to allow for the
installation of " xperimental" shoreline stabilization projects. The intent is to document the
effectiveness f these methods over the traditional vertical bulkhead. A brief description of
the current proposal and site characteristics follows:

This site is a resi ential property adjacent to the Lockwoods Folly River in Brunswick County. The
property owner h is entered into a cost sharing agreement with the NC Coastal Federation to install an
alternative shorel ne stabilization project along the eroding shoreline bordering their property.
The high ground portion of the property has a canopy of oaks, pines, and white bay, with an
understory of wax myrtle. Towards the eastern side of the property, there is a natural drainage finger.
The escarpment long the shoreline is severely undercut, 4' to 6' in height, with fallen trees and

PROPOSAL:
The shoreline to the east and west are more severely undercut, with as much as 12'

centrifugal force ill naturally carry a vessel to the outside of the curve, possibly into the areaof the
rocks. Visibility o the sill will be very difficult at any range of high tides, and even less than high tides
with wake action
