The Town of Bryson City has taken the following actions in response to the Notice of Violation and
Intent to Assess Civil Penalty letter dated October 2, 2019 for violations on 8/1/19.
1) The Town received $95,000 for an Asset Inventory and Assessment Grant. This funding is
currently being used to conduct a comprehensive infiltration/inflow evaluation of our sanitary
sewer collection system. Flow meters have been placed in strategic locations to study the I&I;
however, we have not experienced heavy rainfall since the installation.
2) Smoke testing will be conducted by the Town and McGill Associates as part of the Asset
Inventory and Assessment Grant. This will help locate areas of I&1.
3) The Town has performed cleaning of the line around the area of this manhole located
located at 45 Everett St.
4) McGill Associates has submitted a CDBG grant application to replace 2700 linear feet of clay
sewer line next to the river where we experience excessive amounts of I&I. This engineer firm
believes the Town has a strong application for this cycle.
Please contact me if you have additional questions concerning this response.
