Response to NOV 2020 PC 0030 Permit NCG50000
Dear Mr. Davidson:
Water Quality Re
Asheville Region) once lions
This letter provides information on the actions taken to date on the issue discovered in the inspection
conducted on January 13, 2020 at the Premier Magnesia Giles Chemical facility on Commerce Street in
Waynesville, NC.
Immediate Actions:
1. Instituted a high level alarm (both audible and visible) on our plant DCS system.—1/13/2020
2. Trained Operators on how to respond to the high tank level alarm—1/14/2020
3. Cleaned the overflow drain and found that it was partially plugged—1/14/2020
Longer Term Actions:
1. A 4" High level drain will be installed on the tank, connecting to the original overflow point. The
pump feeding the tank had a maximum flow of 60gpm, and the current 2" overflow is sufficient
when it is not clogged, so the 4" overflow should be more than sufficient to handle any
circumstance and prevent plugging. — Planned completion 3/1/2020
2. Outfall and tank labelling— Planned completion 2/15/2020
Please let me know if we can provide any additional information.
