HomeMy WebLinkAboutNCG170425_Spill Update_20200213Mr. Reed,
Air Clear Unit #2 located on roof suffered a malfunction of a small leak due to improper
installation of gaskets, which lead to a high-water level inside the unit
necessitating some of oily water to be drained from the air clear unit to the roof top. To
accomplish this, there is a drain system that can pipe water from the unit across the roof
and down the side of the building into a Filter Press waste separator from where it can
ultimately be pumped out into a filtration system developed and installed by Everest and
approver by WWTP. Unfortunately, due to improper installation this allowed an
estimated 5 gallons, or less of the oily water to reach the roof and travel across the roof
approximately 15' to 20'. EHS personnel arrived on scene of occurrence and used
absorbent socks to circle drain preventing any oily residue of the oily water to reach
storm drain.
To prevent this high-water situation occurring again in air clear unit #2 and
necessitating to any storm drain of oily water, due to the malfunction of the gaskets, we
have a temporary solution to contain the oily residue. Everest has contracted Renfrow
to repair this issue with new and proper equipment.
Mr. Reed, as in this case, I will continue to inform you of any mishaps shall they be any
more in the future.
Thank you,
