RE: T&S Hardwoods Inc, Permit Number NCG210000, Jackson County, NC
Dear Mr.Aiken:
My Name is Nathan Thompson and I am the General Manager of T& S Hardwoods Inc Sylva
NC Division. I would first like to apologize for having to write this letter due to my ignorance on
the guideline of a proper stormwater management program. My facility received four violations
after Isaiah Reed's site inspection on February 19, 2020, those violations being the Stormwater
Pollution Prevention Plan not being correctly maintained or implemented; Qualitative monitoring
not be recorded in accordance with permit guidelines;Analytical Monitoring not being recorded
in accordance with permit guidelines, and Secondary Containment not being provided for all of
my bulk storage liquid materials on site.
Most of the violations occurred due to the fact that our former plant manager left abruptly from
T&S. He dealt with and oversaw all environmental implementation aspects of the plant site.
During the transition which happened rapidly he briefly discussed the SWPP, but assured me
that the Stormwater Prevention Program was accurate and correct. As the transaction occurs
so quickly I've had to learn a lot quickly and in an informal way. I have made a few mistakes

along the way such as taking the former management's word that our Stormwater Plan was
accurate and correct instead of reviewing my stormwater pollution plan myself. Obviously this
is not an excuse to not abide by the regulation that has been put into place, but for the past five
days my Human Resources Clerk and myself have gone through our book and thoroughly have
tried to familiarize ourselves with what has to be done.
I have created a Plan of Action that I feel will correct all violations and ensure that we are in
compliance with the requirements of our permit. I have appointed a team whom I feel like is
going to make our StormWater Pollution Program successful and in compliance with our permit
requirements. Some of the things we have met about and intend to implementent going forward
are the week we take our Stormwater runoff sample we are going to do our plant inspection
,such as looking over the integrity of our secondary containments, making sure debris has been
swept with the broom on the skid steer properly, all filtration devices are still being properly
maintained in our ditches. We will then review our record keeping and make sure all
documentation is up to date. Also If our results are high when they come back from our samples
we will do what is necessary to get our sample number back where they need to be. We want to
strive to be good members of the community and make Jackson county a better place. If you
have any questions my personal cell number is(478)363-1172.
Sincerely,yy
