Requirements for use of sand filter system:
1. Letter from Polk County stating that land will not perk and there are
no alternative sewer systems available.
2. Complete application form and submit with$50.00 fee.
3. System must include septic tank, dual sand filter, cascade,
chlorinator, and de-chlorinator. ( The de-chlorinator is required if
emptying into a trout stream)
Possible reasons for denial:
1. Can not empty into a stream that has no flow for up to 7 days.
(Should not be a problem on the Pacolet)
2. Can not discharge into a nutrient sensitive stream. (Wiggins said
that the stream being in the mountains should not have this
problem)
