On February 21, 2020, Joan Schneier of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR), Water Quality
Regional Operations Section, and Poonam Giri of the DWR Non Discharge Permitting Branch did a
compliance inspection on the above wastewater treatment system, due to length of time since the
Iast inspection and in support of upcoming permit renewal. We would like to thank Chad Allen and
Chris Taylor from AQWA, Inc., who assisted during the inspection and performed routine
maintenance. On the date inspected, the system was non -compliant only due to the fence.
Sludge levels were low at 6 inches in the inlet side of the septic tank, and about the same in the recirc
tank. There was no scum (normally caused by grease). All filters were cleaned during the inspection.
The UV bulb and both the recirc and dosing tank high water alarms worked. Several leaks were found
in the drip lines and one ball valve had been accidently opened, allowing a relatively large volume of
effluent to escape, when that zone was operating. AQWA installed a box to prevent that from easily
happening again. The fence around the drip field was down in multiple places and needed to be
repaired. The fence is a homeowner responsibility.
Please have the fence repaired within 60 days. A minimum of two strands of wire are required,
entirely encircling the field.
