The Air Force maintains an easement with the City of Goldsboro who is the partial owner of the site where trees are to be cut. The easement allows for tree removal, topping trees,and cutting trees to ground level in the entire area. The City of Goldsboro's stabilization pond is near by. 3b. Proposed Activity Provide a detailed description of the proposed activity including its purpose and include the type of equipment to be used:* The Air Force proposes to remove trees in an area directly adjacent to the West End of the Runway Clearance Zone on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. The tree removal is necessary to ensure flight safety within the flight clearance zone. No stumps will be removed and cut trees will be left in place. Personnel will use chain saws and hand clearing to remove some trees and shrubs. Previous letter from DWQ shows "exempt" concurrence on previous shrub and tree removal actions in the riparian buffer zones in the past due to the 1979 easement.
