01010 SUMMARY OF WORK
Part I. General
.1 Scope of Work
This specification covers the work necessary to install a washout
water recovery system for the Caldwell Ready Mix, Inc. concrete
batch mixing plant.
1.2 System Description
This system is designed to treat 100% of all wastewater generated
in cleaning out concrete mixing drums and in washing the exterior
concrete mixing trucks. Additionally, the system reclaims sand
and gravel from the washout effluent. The sand and gravel is
separated by mechanical screening into individual stockpiles.
The wastewater originates from cleaning the batch truck mixing
drums which are manually washed out and the contents expelled
into a hopper that feeds mechanical screw screening conveyors.
The screening augers are continually washed to eliminate cement
and flyash residue from the saved materials, which drain off into
sedimentation basins. The hopper is located on a drainage slab
so that the water from extericr washing of the mixer trucks is
contained and allowed to drain into the sedimentation
(clarification) basins. The drainage effluent from the drum
washout, the screening process and from the exterior truck
washing all drain in common to clarification basins noted as B1,
B2, and B3 on the drawings. The water from the last basin is
pumped back to the start of the system for reuse and recycling.
A portion of this reclaimed water is used in the batch mixing of
fresh concrete to be delivered off site. This loss of reclaimed
water requires the addition of daily make-up water to offset the
loss. Settled solids will be removed from B1 and B2 by front end
leader and manually from B3 and will be either recycled or
handled as solid waste.
No surface drainage water will be allowed to enter the system.
It will be diverted around the reclaim facility to exit by the
natural water shed.
1.3 Project Description
The project shall consist of removing the existing sedimentation
lagoon and stock pile, site grading, construction of slabs and
sedimentation basins, installation of mechanical equipment, and
site drainage grading for diversion of surface run-off.
1.4 Regulatory Requirements
All work, materials, supplies, and equipment shall be in
compliance with all local, state and applicable federal
codes and regulations. No work shall be commenced until
such time that all permits and approvals have been
obtained.
1.5 Erosion Control
An Erosion/Sedimentation Control Plan will not be required for
the project. However, prior to construction, proper protection
of the nearby stream shall be obtained by installing protective
measures to prevent excessive siltation from impacting the
stream. These protection measures will be maintained throughout
the construction process. Any temporary sedimentation basins
constructed during the construction phase shall be maintained in
a manner to prevent overflowing or runoff into the stream.
Protection features will be removed at the completion of
construction as necessary by removal and disposal of siltatious
materials. All de-nuded areas shall be properly grassed and
mulched as soon as practicable.
Part II. Products
2.1 Concrete
All concrete shall have a minimum of 3,000 psi compressive
strength and a slump of 5 inches or less.
2.2 Equipment
All equipment, pumps, conveyors, hoppers, etc. shall be
consistant to the requirements of the project. The mechanical
equipment shall be as manufactured by J&H Equipment Inc.,
Roswell, Georgia or equal. All mechanical equipment including
pumps, shall be provided by the Owner and installed by the
contractors.
2.3.Reinforcing Steel
All reinforcing steel shall be intermediate grade billet steel,
deformed bar stock, clean and free of all rust and corrosion.
2.4 Backfill Materials
Exterior walls of the recycle facility
clean, well compacted soil and/or with
as manufactured by the on site concrete
