Attention: William Rourke, Acting Park Superintendent
Subject: Surface Irrigation Permit Inspection Report
Permit No. WQ0020881
Lake Norman Swim Beach and Family Campground
Iredell County
Dear Mr. Rourke:
Enclosed you will find the report for the compliance inspection that was conducted on February
4th, 2020, for the referenced facility's treatment and disposal system. The inspection included
a review of: records, two pump stations, the residuals processing and storage areas and the
application sites. The MRO would like to thank Chip White and Chris Bitterman of Envirolink
and Rudy Magallanes of Lake Norman State Park for their time during the inspection.
The facility storage and application fields appeared well maintained at the time of inspection.
There are a couple of points worth nothing for continued program compliance:
• Please be sure to follow all permit prescribed reporting due dates to avoid violations
from being generated or NDMR reports from having to be amended.
• Please be sure to notify the MRO of ORC or pertinent staff changes so we may keep our
contact information current.
This permit is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2020. Please be sure to submit your
renewal application before March 30, 2020 to be able to meet the 180 submittal requirement
within the permit.

Comment: Treatment Lagoon by aeration. The aeration units are typically not run continuously during the
winter months. However, the treatment system is turned on during the ORC weekly visits. Due
to the system not being continuously in operation during the winter months, some odor was
detected when the aeration pumps were turned on. The odor dissipated fairly quickly after
aeration DumDs ran for a few minutes.

Comment: Spray field 1 was observed during the site visit. There are two rows with twenty spray nozzles in
each row. The application appeared to be even with a slight overlapped between spray heads.
Spare parts are kept on hand by park personnel to be able to keep the irrigation fields in good
operating condition.
