The sample was collected on 2/28/13 and the results were reported from the lab only on 3/12/13 and so there was no time to resample to bring the monthly average for Settleable Solids down from 0.2 ml/l to 0.1 ml/l. Although the turbidity was higher than 50 NTU we do not know if this caused the existing turbidity level in the receiving stream to be increased. We think that this upset condition was caused primarily due to the 114" of rainfall that occurred on 2/26/13 at the site. In fact, we collected a sample on 3/18/13 and the results reported by the lab were: Turbidity = 2.5 NTU, Total Settleable Solids = Not detected, pH= 7.9, TSS = Not detected In an effort to be proactive we have cleaned Out the basin that the wastewater settles in prior to being discharged. In both instances the pH was analysed onsite to be slightly below a pH of 6. Unfortunately, the person collecting the sample had inadvertently failed to realize that the range for pH was 6 to 9. Therefore, we have implemented monthly sampling for pH. However, I would like to point out that we believe the pH readings were possibly due to a faulty pH meter probe because we had the samples that were collected on 6/25/12 also analyzed by Pace Analytical and their results for the pH were 7.8 and 8.4. As a result we have ordered a new pH meter along with new buffer solutions, etc. to eliminate any instrument error. Low pH readings have not been issue in the past at this quarry.
