LANDOUAt_ITY SECTION OrICE Enclosed for your review and approval is our request for a modification to our existing mining permit. Our request is to increase the affected acreage from 202.93 acres to 265.30 acres as shown on the attached mining map. The permitted acreage of 271.9 acres remains the same. Please find pages 1-3 and page 18 of your application for a mining permit completed as requested, as well as six (6) copies of our modified mining map and our $1,000.00 permit modification processing fee. Our operations summary will not change. 1. 'Trucks entering the mining area are required to stop at the office trailer to receive load tickets and instructions upon entering the mine area. Speed limits are posted along the haul road and are strictly enforced. All trucks exiting the mine site with mined material are covered with a tarpaulin. 2. Sand is loaded on delivery trucks by a rubber tired front end loader and/or an excavator. 3. In most instances, the mined material is placed directly on the dump trucks by the front end loader or excavator as they enter the mining area. Sand is also placed in temporary stockpiles. 4. The material excavated from the mine is used in various construction projects in Northeastern North Carolina and Southeast Virginia. Demand for sand continues to be high, which is the reason for our request. Average daily load counts are approximately 100 loads with one truck leaving every six minutes. 5. A dewatering pump is utilized on site to lower the static water table as mining takes place. Discharge from the pump is directed to an approved settling basin on site adjacent to the excavation areas. This settling basin is provided to reduce the amount of suspended solids in the discharged groundwater prior to being released into our approved outfall. 6. A water truck is present on site to make sure dust from the truck traffic is kept to a minimum. A motor grader is also available to maintain the haul road as deemed necessary. 7. Reclamation Summary: The bulk of the reclamations will commence upon the completion of the mining operation. To date, the excavated mining area in Pond A has been filled with clean material. Pond B will be filled leaving six to eight feet of water within the lake. All stockpiles, settling basins and screening berms will be graded and placed at a 3 to I slope along the edges of the excavated area in Pond B. The lake. banks will be stabilized with permanent vegetation as called for in our approved permit.
