NO Division of Environmental Management GOVER R P. O. Box 29535 -" Raleigh, North Carolina 27626-0535 BILL HOLMAN S r t>,""^ Dear Mr. Dorney. ECRETARY This notification is in reference to General Water Quality Certificate #2679 issued January 21, 1992. The N. C. Division of Forest Resources has STANFORD M. ADAMS DI C plans to conduct fire line plowing training on Thursday, October 26, 2000. The RE TOR training will be held in the Hofmann Forest 15 miles south of Jacksonville. Please find the attached map for site location specifics. We anticipate approximately 46 miles of fire line to be constructed during this training. As with any fire line training session the actual line construction mileage will depend on the circumstances associated with the specific operations of the session, however, we realistically see far less line production than anticipated. This information is being provided to comply with the agreed upon conditions of the General Certification. Notification has been made concerning this request to the Wilmington office of the Corps of Engineers. Thank you for your review of this request. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call me. During the week of October 23, 2000 we will be conducting Region One Fire School. We are also planning to conduct FFEO Training the week of November 13, 2000. In order for the training to be successful we need to be given permission from the Corp of Engineers to construct fire lines in the Hofman Forest. Attached are two maps. Map A is showing projected line construction for Basic FFEO Training and Map B is showing projected line construction for Region One Field Problem. The projected area disturbed for Basic FFEO is about 22 miles of fire line or 22 acres, for Region One field problem is about 24 miles of fire line or 24 acres. In the past few years the amount actual fire line construction has fallen way short of the projected amount. Also, in 1999 all training sessions were cancelled because of excessive wet conditions in the Hofman. We will also be monitoring weather conditions this year and if the Forest is excessively wet we will probably not be plowing. I am requesting that you make the proper contacts and -acquire the proper permission to allow us to conduct the above mentioned training. If I can be of any further assistance please contact me at Region One Headquarters. Cc: Jim Sain Ile MA n.nc o r' sdksEaR ^ C4 ? .e r?„r? ? rg?4T):/; ?_?1-•-"- h' " Tom` ut ?
