WRC-Andrea DWR- Erin, Mac Lewis Creek- 4 sq mi drainage area with two small tribs coming in. Proposed project on property owned by Community Center/Park (Edneyville??). Proposal is to bring stream onto floodplain on southeastern side of the floodplain. Walked to the top of the project then downstream to culvert on Hwy 64. Lewis crk has single tree to or no trees on stream left and essentially the same on stream right. For Lewis Creek-streambanks are showing lateral movement, probably a bank height ratio of 1.4-1.8. Slight berm along stream left floodplain. Area currently planned for various recreational activites. Above project is a DMS site (also named Lewis Creek, that has closed out). Greg said banks were in bad shape (I would check to be sure) but we did not visit. However, there is an area from the top of the project to the DMS site which is owned by another landowner not currently in the project. We did visit this are and the stream is moving around quite a bit. Did have one bend showing down valley migration. We stated for this project to be viable this property should be captured (very important). There is a pinch in the valley near the bottom of the project that would restrict buffer width and meander pattern which is a negative. We also stressed that they stay away, at least 50 feet from the DOT right-of-way since DOT will eventually replace bridge/culvert on 64. It was also stated that there would be pressure from the community to create and maintain walking trails that would eventually encroach upon the easement. We said the stream could use some work but it is a short reach and really for it to be viable it would need to connect to the DMS project. At the end, Greg sounded like the Town brought them the project and wanted to see if they could get mitigation credit for it. We also stated that this may be more of a grant -like project.
