Wastewater Irrigation System
Chatham County
On December 5, 2019, Joan Schneier and Brion Byers of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR),
Water Quality Regional Operations Section, did an inspection on the above wastewater treatment
system to follow up on issues raised by the September 17 inspection and subsequent Notice of
Deficiency. On the date inspected, the system was much improved and only slightly non -compliant,
due to a high water alarm. Joan Schneier also stopped by on December 12, before the UV issue was
explained.
The sand filter roofs had been fully replaced. The light was still out on one high water alarm but the
audio was quite functional, and both the audible and visual alarm worked on the other one, from both
float and test switch. The ultraviolet (UV) disinfection light was erroneously previously described as
not working but actually is cold, even when running. The field check valves had been replaced. The
fence had been rebuilt with wire on the two sides not surrounded by boards.
