The drawings indicate that all work will be contained within turbidity curtains and as long as that continues throughout the duration of the environmental windows, DMF does not expect significant impacts will occur. Here is some additional information that I received from DOT relating to the North River Bridge project. I will call you later today to discuss if possible. Currently we have 41 spans of the 47 removed and 17 bents of the 46 removed. The contractor can remove between 3 and 9 bents per week based on rough weather or perfect weather conditions with piles precut. Therefore, let’s assume the contractor can average 6 bents a week, it will take another 6 weeks for bent removal. In addition, the 6 spans (deck and rail) will take about 3 weeks to remove. 1 We would anticipated being able to complete bridge demo by March 31, 2020. Currently the moratorium as listed in the permits doesn’t allow in water work between Feb. 15 and September 30. We are requesting an allowance to March 31 to perform and complete in water work of removal of all existing bridge structure and existing causeway as shown in the contract/permit drawings. The contractor has had a few set backs at no fault of their own. The utility company Conterra (Broadplex) did not complete the switch over to their new fiber line until 90 days after traffic was placed on the new structure, thus delaying the date Carolina Bridge could begin demo. The location of the North River bridge is prone to strong winds and rough water, slowing the demo for safety of the workers. In addition, new piles not shown in the contract plans have been found under the existing causeway that will have to be removed increasing the amount of work. 2 If you have any questions, please let me know.
