road) is on the left (south) side of hwy . 740 x n . 25 miles
southwest of the jct . of hwy . 740 and SR 1566 in the Town of
Badin .

C . Describe receiving stream features and pertinent
downstream uses : Excellent flow observed in the
receiving stream ( 3-4 feet wide x 4-6 inches deep) at
the time of the site inspection, however , the area had
recently experienced a substantial rainfall event .
Upstream contributions to the receiving stream come
from ALCOA (NC0004308 ) and consist of a cooling Water
discharge . There are no other dischargers and/cr water
intakes known below this outfall .
PART II - DESCRIPTION OF DISCHARGE AND TREATMENT WORKS

e . Description of existing or substantially constructed
WWT facilities- : The existing WWT facilities consist of
a manually cleared bar screen followed by an influent
pump station., an orbital aeration basic. ( oxidation
ditch) , an aerobic sludge digester , dual final
clarifiers , dual chlorine contact chambers with gaseous
disinfection , SO. dechlorination , cascade post
aeration , four (1) sludge drying beds and stand-by
power .
f . Description of proposed WWT facilities : N/A
n , Possible toxic impacts to surface waters : Facility has
established a consistent passed it ' s toxicity tests .
h . Pretreatment Program (POTWs only) : Not Needed .

Residuals disposal , when necessary , will be at the local
county landfill .

PART III - OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION

This facility was constructed with public monies .
2 .' Special monitoring or limitations (including toxicity)
requests : None at this time .
3 . Important SOC/JOC or Compliance Schedule dates : This
facility is under an SOC, however, it relates to I/I
problems in the collection system and not to the inability
of the existing facility to comply with it 's assigned
effluent limitations .
4 . Alternative Analysis Evaluation
a. Spray Irrigation: The county plans to explore the
option of using the effluent from the WWTP on a nearby
golf course, however, they have not established a
timetable for this evaluation.
b. Connect to regional sewer system: N/A
C. Subsurface: N/A
PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The Greater Badin Water and Sewer District (GBWSD) requests
renewal of the subject Permit . There have been no changes and/or
modifications to the existing facility since the Permit was last
issued.
This facility is currently under an SOC which will allow the
County to perform remediation on the sewer collection system to
help eliminate excessive I/I . There are no plans for any
additional construction at the WWTP at this time . Pending receipt
and approval of the WLA, it is recommended that the Permit be
renewed as requested.
