Mr. Tharrington,
The Pender County Board of Education and Schools appreciates the opportunity to
response to the above -mentioned Notice of Violation issued January 7, 2020 for
Monthly exceeds for Total Ammonia Nitrogen (C0610).
It was unknown as to why we were experiencing ammonia exceeds; however, if the
operator had known about the exceeds, he could have taken adequate measures to
ensure the WWTPs compliance. As was the issue for October the exceeds were not
sent from the lab as is the usual process so there was no way to know that the
ammonia levels were exceeding the parameters of the permit; however, we are
currently receiving the results for December 2019. It is our hopes that this issue has
been resolved.
We believe this letter shows the commitment Pender County Board of Education/School
is making to achieve compliance and hopes that the Division recognizes these efforts.
Therefore, we request that as the Division considers these efforts when deciding on
further enforcement.
