Please find attached the latest updated plans for the Hatteras Inlet South Ferry Channel project. The
USACE navigation branch has informed us that they are planning to mobilize to the area with the
sidecast dredge Merritt over the weekend and begin dredging on Monday. We will confirm once
dredging has occurred.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Subject: RE: Hatteras Inlet - South Ferry Channel Maintenance
0
The last correspondence on the subject project was back in October 2019. At that time we were
prepared to initiate the next maintenance event for the South Ferry Channel at Hatteras Inlet.
Around that time, the County was informed by the USACE and State that the MOA in place to allow
the State to fund the project, which is conducted by the USACE dredge plants, had expired. A new
MOA was just signed today, allowing us to finally move forward with the work.
I wanted to provide a brief update on where we stand with the work. The USACE will be conducting
an updated survey of the area on Thursday of this week (weather permitting). As soon as we can
turn that data around and provide updated plans showing the proposed channel, we will pass that
along. We will also provide an estimated schedule of days to complete the work and date to begin.
The USACE has indicated that they have the Dredge Merrit in the area and would like to start
dredging as early as this weekend if we can get the survey completed and confirm the channel
location.
We will keep everyone updated on any changes to the schedule and will provide you all an updated
set of project plans ASAP. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or comments.

A couple more pieces of info...
The USACE estimates approximately 20 days of dredging to remove the estimated volume. With
weather days and crew changes, that's likely to occur over the course of a 3 to 4 week period. The
total volume is currently estimated around 30,000 cy.

Subject: Hatteras Inlet - South Ferry Channel Maintenance
mm
The subject channel was surveyed following Hurricane Dorian and through coordination with the
USACE navigation branch, a slight modification to the orientation of the proposed maintenance
channel has been made. Attached is an updated set of plans showing the channel as proposed in
August and the updated channel alignment modified after Hurricane Dorian (See Sheet 3). At
present the schedule has been pushed back a few weeks due to an issue with the MOA between the
State and USACE. Both entities are working to remedy the situation and we will provide an updated
schedule as soon as we nail it down.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Sincere Regards,
