PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant proposes to replace 2 existing docks and mooring piles that are configured for 5 large boat slip with 2 piers, 5 finger piers and mooring piles to create 10 slips for small boats. Proiect Setting The location of the project is 57190 Saxon Cut Drive, in Hatteras, Dare County on the southeast side of a man-made boat basin in Hatteras Harbor off of the Pamlico Sound. The boat basin is approximately 290 ft wide at the applicant's property. The property has an area of 20,000 sq ft with 96 ft of bulkheaded shoreline. There is a 14 ft wide concrete area along the entire shoreline. The rest of the parcel is gravel with minimal areas of shrub and grass vegetation. Currently there are two 22' X 5' docks over the water, parallel to the shore, and 14 mooring piles, for five boat slips. The farthest mooring piles are approximately 55 ft offshore. The depths range from approximately -4 along the bulkhead to -8 at 75 ft off- shore. The adjacent riparian property to the west is developed with a fish house, pier, and boat slips; the adjacent riparian property to the east has piers and boat slips. All of the properties on the southeast side of the boat basin are developed and bulkheaded. The water classification in this area is SA, and is closed to shellfishing. Development Proposal The applicant proposes to remove the existing two docks and the 14 mooring piles and replace them with two 70' X 5' piers that would go out into the water along the riparian property lines, to install six 3' X 12' finger piers (3 on the inside of each 70' pier) and 26 new mooring piles to create 10 slips. The applicant is proposing to angle the finger piers out 5' so that the last mooring pile would be 5' from the end of the long piers and 75' from the shore. Anticipated Impacts • The proposed project will result in the shading of 916 sq ft of Estuarine Waters and Public Trust Area AEC's. . The proposed project will result in temporary disturbance during construction. • The proposed project will increase the number of slips at the site from five to ten.
