Wastewater Irrigation System
Chatham County
On September 12, 2019, Joan Schneier of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR), Water Quality
Regional Operations Section, did an inspection on the above wastewater treatment system due to the
time interval since the last inspection. We would like to thank Brendan Towner of McFarland Septic,
who was doing repairs and assisted during the inspection. After repairs were complete, the system
was compliant.
The sand filter roof covers were removed and the filter bed cleaned. The UV bulb was replaced. The
spin and disk filters were cleaned, which relieved the backup. The drip field is kept mowed. Several
substantial Ieaks were fixed during the inspection and minor leaks were repaired later. The fence
was in good shape.
These systems are fairly complex and we recommend a regular maintenance contract.
