Hi Brandee,
No trees will be removed or cut during the repair. The lake level is down so the water will not be impacted. There
will be minimal excavation for the project.
Talked to the contractor and reconfirmed the scope of work. Please see attached revised plan showing the location
and proposed 10.5 LF of seawall to be repaired.
Thanks,
Emma Barden

Subject: RE: Permitting for 165 Storm Ridge Rd., Lake Lure, NC - Seawall Repair
Hi Emma, thanks for your plans.
I want to first let you know the project does fall within a trout watershed and is subject to the trout moratorium (Oct
15th-April 15th). It is also located in Northern Long Eared Bat habitat, so I would need to know if any trees will be
cut or any percussive activity will take place for the project in order to give a final ok.
As far as the submitted plans, I am trying to understand the average distance, waterward, of the riprap & the new
conc fill. Your plans indicate the new concrete fill to be at least 18" and the rip rap appears to be closer to 36" or
more but neither of those calculations are listed. As you likely know, Sections S &T of the RGP30 state:
"s. Bulkhead and riprap alignments, or shoreline stabilization structures will not extend farther waterward than an
average distance of two (2) feet, maximum distance of five (5) feet from the normal pool elevation contour and may
not extend more than 500 feet along a shoreline."
" t. Placement of riprap should be limited to only that which is necessary to protect existing/new bulkheads. In
general, riprap will be placed at the base of all bulkheads and will extend a maximum of three (3) feet waterward on
a 2:1 slope. However, in cases of steep slopes, a maximum of six (6) feet waterward on a 2:1 slope is authorized
provided it complies with the applicable shoreline or reservoir management program. All other fill material will be
confined landward of bulkheads."
And sec U states:
u. Material placed for shoreline stabilization will not exceed an average of one cubic yard per running foot placed
below the plane of the ordinary high water mark. Material should only be placed where shoreline is actively eroding
and no material should be placed in excess of the minimum needed for erosion protection.
Once I have those distances & NLEB info, I can let you know if this will in fact fit within our RGP#30 conditions
and notifying needs.
Kindest Regards,
Brandee Boggs
