Typical Cross Section Description:
Headed East on Catawba Avenue, along -L-, there is a 12-15' lane, followed by two, 12-
15' right turn lanes, 2' curb and gutter, a 04' plant strip and a 10' multi -use path. Headed
west there are two, 12-15' lanes, followed by a 12-15' right turn lane, 2' curb and gutter, a
4' plant strip and a 5' sidewalk. Headed North on US 21, along -Y1A-, there are two, 12'
lanes, 2' curb and gutter, a 7' plant strip and a 13' multi -use path. Headed South on -Y1A
there are two, 12' lanes, followed by a 0-12' right turn lane, a 7' plant strip and a 13' multi-
use path. -Y1 B- headed North has a 12' lane, 2' curb and gutter, followed by a 7' plant
strip and a 13' multi -use path. Headed South along -Y1B-, there is a 12' lane, followed by
another 0-12' lane, a 7' plant strip and a 13' multi -use path.
The existing roadway has two, 1 V lanes in each direction, with 2' curb and gutter and a
0-5' sidewalk along the roadway.

General Project Narrative:
(Description of Minimization of Water
Quality Impacts)
This is a roadway widening project with dual roundabouts North and South of SR 5544 (Catawba Ave) and US 21 intersection in Cornelius.
There are three impact sites along the project where permanent and temporary surface water impacts will occur. Site 1 impacts occur at a 42" RCP and headwall. Site 2 impacts
occur at a channel relocation and a rip rap outlet. Site 3 impacts occur at a channel relocation. Dissapator pads are used to reduce water velocities entering streams within the
project. NCDOT will attempt to avoid and minimize impacts to streams to the greatest extent practicable during project design.
