SUMMARY
Facility Description: City Salvage Inc. is located on approximately 8.7 acres of property at 3628 Northerly Road in
Charlotte. The property is used for a car salvage facility.
File Review/History: Charlotte -Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS) has performed previous inspections at
City Salvage Inc. on March 31, 2009, March 28, 2014. and August 25, 2015. A Notice of Violation was issued by
CMSWS to City Salvage Inc. on April 16, 2009.
Inspection Summary: The facility was observed to be in compliance with the City of Charlotte Storm Water Pollution
Control Ordinance during the recent inspection. Qualitative and analytical monitoring have not been conducted per the
NPDES Permit requirements. Please refer to the report for comments and recommendations from the inspection.

recommended that additional gravel be placed in the drainage
channel to control stormwater erosion on the property. It is
also recommended that the vegetation be keep intact within
the stormwater drainage channel to prevent further erosion.

Recommendation
Used automobiles, parts, and equipment are stored outdoors
on the property. Since most of the used automobiles are
stored uncovered on the property, it is recommended that the
facility continue to properly drain and dispose of automotive
fluids prior to storage on the property.

storage containers located on a concrete pad that is covered
with a structural canopy. The concrete pad appeared to be in
good condition and no significant stormwater pollution issues
were observed in the outdoor processing area.

maintained; no significant stormwater pollution issues were
observed.

Some of the automobile processing activities, including the
mercury switch recovery, is performed inside the garage on
the property. No stormwater pollution issues were observed
in the indoor processing areas.
Floor drains
Recommendation
There is a sump drain located underneath the covered
concrete pad where the automotive fluid draining occurs.
Facility staff indicated that the automotive fluids in the sump
drain are pumped into storage totes. It is recommended that
the sump drain continue to be inspected and maintained to
ensure the automotive fluids are collected. Facility personnel
indicated that the used automotive fluids are picked up for
disposal by SC Waste Management.
