Shenandoah Wood Preservers, Inc.
Facility Activities and Processes:
• SIC Code 2491— Wood Preserving
• The facility treats lumber with Micronized Copper Quat (MCQ)
• 2009 Staff Report — The facility was reported to be adding a new process called Wolman AG, in
addition to maintaining the ACQ process.
Monitoring Information:
• The facility has reported "No Flow" almost every month since 2014. DEQ has no monitoring data
since at least 2014.
• The application states the maintenance of forklifts and machines is done on concrete and old
fluids are captured and are properly disposed.
• The facility has had issues in the past with TSS and COD benchmark exceedances.
• 2009 Staff Report —The facility changed from chromated copper arsenate, CCA (a hazardous
chemical) to Alkaline Copper Quaternary, ACQ (non -hazardous chemical).
• A list of 7 chemicals and their estimated annual amounts involved in the new process was
provided. Wolman AG Concentration 130,000 Ibs, Amigiclown 190,000 Ibs, Arch Defoamer WE
190,000 Ibs, K18500 Mold Inhibitor 1250 KG tote 220,500 Ibs, Arch Moldicide WE 1000 KG tote
220,500 Ibs, Wolman AG Colorant/Fern 190,000 Ibs, and Water repellent AG 24,000 lbs.
• The Wolman AG process has since been discontinued on this site as well as the ACQ treatment.
Now only Micronized Copper Quat (MCQ) is used to treat lumber.
Impairment:
• This site discharges to impaired waters experiencing problems with fish tissue mercury.
