APTIM October 7, 2019 Heather Coats Division of Coastal Management North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality 127 Cardinal Drive Ext. Wilmington, NC 28405-3845 Subject: Dare County Hatteras Inlet Channel Maintenance Project Permit Renewal Dear Ms. Coats, 4038 Masonboro Loop Road Wilmington, North Carolina Tel: +1 910-791-9494 Brad.Rosov@aptim.com On December 20, 2016, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and Coastal Resources Commission issued a Major CAMA Permit (#129-16) to Dare County to perform maintenance dredging within a portion of Hatteras Inlet. This permit was modified on March 14, 2018 to allow for an expansion of the defined connector channel to a width of 200 feet. Since it's issuance, the County performed five (5) dredge events under this permit. A sixth event is being planned for at this time and is expected to occur in October 2019. Due to the anticipated continuation of shoaling within the project area, Dare County is requesting to renew this permit for an additional five (5) years. Currently, this permit is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2019. All future dredging activities conducted under the renewed permit will be performed in accordance with all stated terms and conditions in the original permit. Please find enclosed a check for the $100 renewal fee. As always, feel free to contact me anytime should you have any questions or need anything in addition. The USACE estimates approximately 20 days of dredging to remove the estimated volume. With weather days and crew changes, that's likely to occur over the course of a 3 to 4 week period. The total volume is currently estimated around 30,000 cy. Attached is an updated set of plans showing the channel as proposed in August and the updated channel alignment modified after Hurricane Dorian (See Sheet 3). At present the schedule has been pushed back a few weeks due to an issue with the MOA between the State and USACE. Both entities are working to remedy the situation and we will provide an updated schedule as soon as we nail it down. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
