"'Lund, Steve"' <Steven.W.Lund@saw02.usace.army.mil?- "'Buncick Marella"' <marella_buncick@fws.gov?- "'Barnes, Beth"' <beth.barnes@ncmail.net> During the site visit on March 4, Steve Lund found & I picked up a mussel shell at the creek, as some will recall. I just got back from the Freshwater Mussel Conservation Society symposium, where I asked Judy Ratcliffe, our Eastern Aquatic Nongame Coordinator, to ID it. It is a Villosa vaughaniana, Carolina creekshell, State Endangered, & Fed. SC. She estimated it had been dead approx. 1 year. I'm sure a survey is planned, and I fully support that, however some of the preliminary restoration design plans may need to be changed. Judy recommends against a new channel being cut. Ward, please pass this info on to the right people at NCDOT & all those involved in the project. Thanks, Marla J.
