Raleigh Regional Office
The Grifols Plasma Warehouse is located on the Grifols site on US 70 Business in
Clayton, North Carolina. The site improvements included the construction of the
Plasma Warehouse facility with parking. The facility includes a total of 114 employees
(38 employees per shift with three shifts per day). Based on Section 15A NCAC 02T
.0114, the daily flow for design is 25 gallons/employee/shift. The following summarizes
the design wastewater flow for the pumping station:
Average Daily Flowrate
Peak Daily Flowrate
Original Permitted Design

= 2,850 gpd
2.0 gpm
(2.5)(2,850 gpd)
= 7,125 gpd
5.0 gpm +/-
The original design included a duplex grinder package pump station designed for 38
gpm at 47 feet TDH. The original design also included approximately 1,171 LF of 2"
force main. The original design was submitted to NCDEQ and a permit was issued
on May 2, 2013 as permit No. WQ0036438. The following provides a summary of
permitted improvements:
• Permitted flowrate = 2,850 gpd
• A duplex pump station designed for 38 gpm at 47' TDH
• Approximately 335 LF of 6" gravity sewer
• Approximately 1,171 LF of 2" force main
Revisions to Permitted Design
After issuance of the permit, it was anticipated the condenser units for the Plasma
Warehouse facility would need to discharge to the lift station; consequently, alternate
pumps were proposed and the force main size was increased to 2-1/2". The
alternate pumps were installed along with the larger diameter force main. During
construction, the drainage from the building condenser units was directed to the roof
drains; consequently, the flow to the lift station did not increase. The following
provides a summary of the revisions to the permitted design:
Grifols — Pump Station Design (As -Built) 1 10/2919
• Permitted Fowrate = 2,850 gpd (No Change)
• A duplex pump station designed for 60 gpm at 47' TDH (Revised Flowrate)
• Approximately 165 LF of 6" gravity sewer (Revised Length)
• Approximately 1,171 LF of 2.5" force main (Revised Size)

Back -Up Power/Alarms
o The Grifols Plasma Warehouse and pump station are both connected
to a back-up generator for standby power in the event of electrical
power outages. Due to the critical nature of the contents of the Plasma
Warehouse, electrical power for the warehouse and pump station are
monitored closely by Grifols. The pumping station is equipped with
both audible and visual high water alarms as well as telemetry which is
connected to the permanent emergency generator. A sign is also
posted near the pumping station with an emergency number to call in
the event the alarms are triggered. The pumping station has been
operational for approximately 5 years without issues.
The Grifols Plasma Warehouse Pump Station discharges to the Grifols North
Fractionation Facility Pump Station located to the east of the Plasma Warehouse
site. The original permit application provided documentation confirming the
downstream facilities were adequately sized for the additional pump station.
Since the proposed flowrate did not change from the original permit application,
additional information in not needed for the downstream facilities.

The modified pump station design included two submersible pumps designed for
60 gpm at 47.0 feet TDH. Based on the above revised calculations to reflect the
pump station and force main as -built conditions, the pumps are operating at 60
gpm at approximately 47.9 feet TDH. The as -built calculations do not differ
significantly from the pump design conditions; consequently, the pump station
as -built conditions appear acceptable and it is anticipated the pump station will
operate within the approximate flow and head conditions included in the design
and reflected in the modified permit application. The pumping station has been in
operation for approximately 5 years and it is our understanding it has been
operating as designed without issues. %%'A ,

Record Drawing Submittal for Pump Station and Force Main
Dear Mr. Cashion,
The Grifols Plasma Warehouse pump station and force main were originally permitted
on May 2, 2013 as permit No. W00036438. The following provides a summary of
permitted improvements:
• Permitted flowrate = 2,850 gpd
• A duplex pump station designed for 38 gpm at 47' TDH
• Approximately 335 LF of 6" gravity sewer
• Approximately 1,171 LF of 2" force main
After issuance of the permit, it was anticipated the condenser units for the Plasma
Warehouse facility would need to discharge to the lift station; consequently, alternate
pumps were proposed and the force main size was increased to 2-1/2". The alternate
pumps were installed along with the larger diameter force main. During construction,
the drainage from the building condenser units was directed to the roof drains instead of
the pump station; consequently, the flow to the pump station did not increase. The
following provides a summary of the revisions to the permitted design:
• Permitted flowrate = 2,850 gpd (No Change)
• A duplex pump station designed for 60 gpm at 47' TDH (Revised Flowrate)
• Approximately 165 LF of 6" gravity sewer (Revised Length)
• Approximately 1,171 LF of 2.5" force main (Revised Size)
We are requesting a modification to the original permit to account for the increased
pump station flow, reduced length of 6" gravity sewer and increased force main
diameter. The following information is included with this transmittal as requested in your
e-mail dated August 28, 2019:
Grifols Record Drawing Submittal
Page 2
October 29, 2019
• Fast track application for the proposed permit modifications (original copy
submitted). Per our discussion, a revised FTSE is not required since the flowrate
did not change.
• Check in the amount of $480.00 for processing fee.
• One copy of the project construction record drawings including plan/profile and
field survey for sewer force main and pump station.
• One copy of the supporting applicable design calculations modified to reflect the
as -built conditions.
Please let us know if the attached will be acceptable or if you have any

Subject: RE: final engineering certification for Grifols Plasma Warehouse, WQ0036438
Marty and David,
After discussing with Jason, we determined that a permit modification is required due to the following condition in Part
11.7 of the permit:
Prior to Certification (Final or Partial): Permit modifications are required far any changes resulting in non-compliance
with this permit (including but not limited to pipe length changes of 10% or greater, increased flow, pump station
design opacity desi n increases of 5% or areater...
Please submit a fast track application to modify the original permit, along with the $480 processing fee. The modified
permit will void the original permit; in the permit mod application please include all items in the original permit (335 If of
6-inch gravity, 1171 If of 2-inch FM; however, the drawing showed a 2.5-inch FM) along with the 60 gpm PS. Also, the
approximate volume of the chiller condensate discharge must be included in the application. A revised FTSE from the
Town of Clayton must be submitted with the permit mod application showing the increased flow.
Also, the submitted drawing was stamped by the land surveyor and not the PE; ensure the permit mod certification
properly includes a PE stamp.
When submitting the engineering certification for the permit mod, please include the following items required in Part
11.7 of the permit:
a. One copy of the project construction record drawings (Alan & profile views of sewer lines & force mains l of the
wastewater collection system extension. Final record drawings should be clear on the plans or on digital media
(CD or DVD disk) and are defined as the design drawings that are marked up or annotated with after construction
information and show required buffers, separation distances, material changes, etc.
One copy of the supporting applicable design calculations including pipe and pump sizing, velocity, pump cycle
times, and level control settings, pump station buoyancy, wet well storage, surge protection, detention time in the
wet well, and force main, ability to flush low points in force mains with a pump cycle, and downstream sewer
capacity analysis. !f a portable power source or pump is dedicated to multiple stations, an evaluation of all the
pump stations' storage capacities and the rotation schedule of the portable power source or pump, include travel
timeframes, shall be provided.
c. Changes to the project that do not result in non-compliance with this permit, regulations, or the Minimum Design
Criteria should be clearly identified on the record drawings, on the certification in the space provided, or in written
summary form.
We are 6-8 weeks out from receipt of applications to issuing permits. Since this is a mod to a permit, we'll try to
expedite the permit issuance.
Thanks, please call if you have questions.

Marty,
We are reviewing the subject certification. Profiles of the gravity and FM sewers were not included as required. Please
submit these items.
Also the PS design flow rate was noted as 60 gpm. The permit allowed for a 38 gpm PS. Pis confirm the capacity of the
PS.
Since this is a relative small project, you may email the profile and PS info to us.
Thx
