Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov Yvonne, The SAV survey was done on August 28, 2019 as per NC Marine Fisheries sampling protocol suggested for permit applications. Sheet 1 of 4 shows sample locations, size and water depths waterward of MHW. I have attached the data from the SAV survey and an aerial photo of the project area. The project extends no further than 25 feet from shoreline and samples were taken as far out as 50 feet from MHW. There was no SAV growth present in any of the proposed work areas and the only sample areas that showed sparse SAV growth were located 40-50 feet from MHW at locations 5 & 9. There are some darker areas on the aerial photo that I was initially concerned about but these are turned out to be old root mat from the eroding shoreline. I hope this addresses any questions and concerns. If you need more information please let me know. Would you mind reaching out to the applicant to clarify a few things: 1. Where was the surveyed area (dimensions of the surveyed areas waterward of MHW and along the shorelines of which properties? Was there any mapping produced or notes of the survey? While there may not have been any SAVs present in the direct project area, 7 groins along the property may still have an affect on nearby SAV. Groins reflect and refract wave energy causing shoaling and washout. These groins also affect sand movement and can either cover or remove existing SAV habitat based on wind, current, and other environmental factors. Additional information would be helpful in estimating potential effects.
