We have reviewed the submittal and offer the following comments. As proposed, Phase II improvements to the Eno River Sewer Outfall will have no adverse effect on the West Point on the Eno (DH0519) National Register-listed historic complex based on the following conditions.  Efforts should be made to minimize disturbances caused by the use of machinery during staging and operations, as well as tree removal. This includes limiting the removal of healthy trees and other vegetation outside of the construction corridor.  Areas impacted by construction activities, excluding proposed improvements and the 10’ maintenance corridor, should be returned to pre-construction condition upon project completion.  To protect the contributing resource, temporary barriers such as orange construction fencing, or hay bales should be used to delineate a 5’-10’ foot buffer around the Chimney Site. This will ensure that personnel are aware of the resource and will limit the chances of unnecessary disturbance.  Should damage to the Chimney Site occur, contact our office for technical advice prior to starting repairs.  Photographs must be submitted once construction and revegetation activities have been completed. The above comments are made pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s Regulations for Compliance with Section 106 codified at 36 CFR Part 800. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration.
