Mitigation will be done onsite through a 0.13 acre constructed wetland (see Figures 2 and 3). And 0.40 acres cf existing wetlands will be enhanced. Enhance will take place through hydrology and plant enhancement on 0.20 acre, the area parallel to the wetland construction (see Site Map). The remainder of the enhancement will take place on the upper edge of the property. Constructed Wetlands Wetlands act as nature's kidney's, filtering various pollutants from water. Constructed or artificial wetlands are shallow pools that create growing conditions suitable for the growth of marsh plants. Constructed wetlands are designed to control stormwater flows and pollution. Constructed wetlands can provide a moderate to very high level of pollutant removal relative to other BMPs. They are especially effective in removing suspended solids, total phosphorous, sediment-bound trace metals, bacteria, and oil and grease. Wetlands remove pollutants through the processes of settling, filtration, biological uptake by aquatic vegetation and through other biochemical processes. Wetlands also create fish and wildlife habitat and provide aesthetic benefits. They can be an attractive addition to a development and enhance property value.
