I appreciate how quickly you responded when we notified you that Mrs. Noble's
tract was not in compliance with the "Forest Practices Guidelines Related to
Water Quality." I think that it was good that we were able to get on site while the
logging was still active so that you could utilize the equipment and manpower
already on site to correct any problems.
As we discussed, this site is not in compliance with the Neuse Temporary Rule
because no Streamside Management Zone (SMZ) was left along the intermittent
streams. A more than adequate SMZ was left along the Trent River. The
Division of Water Quality handles cases involving the Neuse Temporary Rule, so
I am referring this project to them.
In the future, if you will reference both the soil survey and the U.S. Geological
Survey topographic maps, applicable streams can be protected by flagging out the
necessary SMZ. Soil surveys are available at the local Natural Resources
Conservation Service Office for each County. You may stop by any of our
County or District Offices to reference the topographic surveys.

I realize that you are not the only responsible party for this project and I note your willingness to
do what you can to resolve this issue in a timely manner. I hope you will feel free to call if you
have any additional questions or comments concerning our observations and recommendations
or if I can be of assistance on any of your other projects.
Sincerely,
