Comments from Commission staff are provided under provisions of the Clean Water Act of 1977 (33 U.S.C. 466 et seq.) and the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (48 Stat. 401, as amended; 16 U.S.C. 661-667d). We recommend that the applicants use rip rap to stabilize the shoreline because it is more durable and less prone to wash-out than walls. Also, it provides habitat complexity for aquatic life. However, if the wall is permitted, then, as proposed, a rip rap toe should be placed along the new wall to improve stability and provide some shoreline habitat. Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on this project. Please contact me at (828) 452- 2546 extension 24 if there are any questions about these comments. Sincerely, -;,//,Z .
