TO: Jim Mulligan, Regional Supervisor Washington Regional Office FROM: Randy Williams, Technical Services Unit SUBJECT: Its -stream Assessment Town of havelock, Craven County The town of Havelock discharges its waste to East prong Slocum Creek, a Class C-Swamp stream in the Reuse River Basin. The portion of the creels which receives the waste is tidally influenced; thus, a Level 8 estuarine analysis was conducted to determine whether a significant impact on DA. would occur if 50,000 gpd were added to the present wasteflow. At the present time, the following data describe the plant's operational status: Sept. 1981-August 1982 Avg. Flow 0.816 mgd BOD5 2.7 mg/1 NH3N ;0.46 mg/l TSS 14 mg/1 The values of these parameters indicates that the plant is well operated. No impact to D.O. in East Prong.Slocum Creek is predicted to occur under these conditions (the D.O. minimum will exceed 5 mg/1). No change is expected if the 50,000 gpd are added to the present flow. In addition to this analysis, I have attached a memo indicating effluent limits required for wasteflows ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 mgd. Please call if you have any questions.
