To Whom It May Concern:
The information presented in the above referenced letter has been the topic of great discussion since
July of this year. The June Total Nitrogen sample was non -compliant due to a low Carbon source in
the anoxic zone, which was a result of sudden lower Carbon output from the school due to summer
attendance. Since July, many efforts and adjustments have been made to rectify this discrepancy. In
August, a supplementary test reading came back at 0 Total Nitrogen. After school's commencement at
the end of August, test results showed Total Nitrogen at 11.8. As is evident from the most recent
readings, there has been improvement. Currituck County Schools, along with Envirotech, are taking
measures to develop an operational formula for the months when school is in session and a separate
formula for months while school is not in session. We have been in discussions with the manufacturer,
as well as the design engineering firm in order to secure assistance with the issues at hand. There is a
signed contract in process to implement an ORP system into the anoxic zone for better Carbon feed
management. We have also begun testing for Quaternary Ammonia at different locations in the
process and researching safe alternative cleaning solutions to reduce or eliminate the product from our
school. As a team, we are making progress toward full compliance and will continue to do so.
Currituck County Schools greatly appreciates your patience and understanding while we continue to
work through the process to alleviate the unintentional issues which are causing the non-compliance.
Thank you for your time at cooperation.
