Wasteload Allocation Summary
(approach taken, correspondence with region, EPA, etc.)
Mount Airy has recently come off an SOC for BODS and toxicity. The facility has had one
violation of TSS since expiration of the SOC. The facility is still having sporadic results for
toxicity testing.
Mount Airy requests renewal of their current permit for 7 MGD wasteflow.
Instream data indicates much fluctuation; some DO values are below 5 mg/1 up and downstream
even in January. The area will be looked at more closely during basinwide renewal in 1999.
Color monitoring/limit should be implemented at this facility after promulgation of color
monitoring requirements. /ei e.,c,-LeSCBrrn#®yt, tc Lc co r h5 " YP er

recommended due to
elevated levels in APAM
_X_ Parameter(s) are water quality limited. For some parameters, the available load capacity of
the immediate receiving water will be consumed. This may affect future water quality based
effluent limitations for additional dischargers within this portion of the watershed.

PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This facility has been recently upgraded from a 4.0 to 7.0 MGD
municipal facility. Solids build-up in the aeration basin was
noticed, because of the presence of a large dark brown foam. The
solids could not be wasted because the belt press was broken for
5 days. The POTW personnel said it was difficult to control the
solids at this facility.
This office highly recommends this facility be assigned an ADMI
color limit for the effluent. Recommend the permit be renewed.
