Dear Dr. Chernikov:
As requested and approved previously at our Belews Creek Steam Station in August 2016.
Duke Energy (Duke) submits this letter to amend our existing NPDES permit under which plant
currently operates. The amendment is to add Sodium Bisulfite 38-42%, Sodium Hypochlorite
12.5%, Ferric Chloride, Magnetite (Iron Oxide), and Drewfloc2270 Polymer to list of Potential
Discharges Not Covered by Analysis required by Form 2C-Item Vi. Safety Data Sheets are
attached. Please include this with the relevant permit file.
These chemicals will be used in the Comag Physical/Chemical Treatment System at Outfall 006A
as required in SOC WQ S 18-009 2(a)(3).
It is our understanding that with this modification to the existing permit application, no permit
modification would be necessary and Duke is authorized to utilize these additives to assure
compliance with NPDES permit limits and decanting requirements.
