NOTICE OF A CORRIDOR PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE NC 125 WILLIAMSTON
BYPASS FROM SR 1182 (EAST COLLEGE ROAD) SOUTHWEST OF
WILLIAMSTON TO NC 125 NORTHWEST OF WILLIAMSTON
TIP Project No. R-3826
Martin County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Corridor
Public Hearing on Thursday, September 17, 2009, for the above proposed highway
project, at the Martin Community College Auditorium (Building 2), located at 1161
Kehukee Park Road, Williamston, 27892.
NCDOT representatives will be available prior to the public hearing in an
informal setting in the auditorium lobby, between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 pm, to
answer questions and receive comments relative to the proposed project. There will be
a formal presentation (public hearing) of the project beginning at 6:30 pm in the
auditorium. There will be an opportunity to submit verbal comments or concerns, if
desired, following the presentation, until 8:30 pm.
NCDOT proposes to widen existing NC 125 between SR 1182 (East College
Road) and US 64 Alternate to three lanes and construct a NC 125 Bypass of
Williamston from US 64 Alternate to existing NC 125 northwest of Williamston, mostly
on new location. A two-lane roadway on multi-lane right of way is proposed for portions
of the bypass on new location: The purpose of the proposed project is to reduce the
amount of truck traffic through downtown Williamston and improve safety on existing
NC 125. Southbound NC 125 truck traffic has difficulty making turns through
Williamston. The proposed bypass will provide a less congested, more free-flowing
alternative to the current roadway.
Maps displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the
environmental document, the Environmental Assessment (EA), are available for public
review at the Town of Williamston, Town Manager's Office, located at 102 E. Main
Street, Williamston; and are also available at the NCDOT, Division 1- Resident
Engineers Office, located at 19210 US Highway 64 East, Williamston. Copies of the
map are available upon request at:

Anyone desiring additional information may contact Ms. Eileen Fuchs, NCDOT-
Human Environment Unit, at 1598 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1598, phone
(919) 431-1610, or email: eafuchs(a)ncdot.gov. Additional written comments may be
submitted to Ms. Fuchs until October 23, 2009.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with
Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this hearing. Anyone
requiring special services should contact Ms. Fuchs as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made.
