Send all suspicious email as an attachment to report.spam@nc.gov WIn56dn-Salem ! #o"h Cft* flitilities City of Winston-Salem • PO Box 2511 • Winston-Salem, NC 27102 • wsfcutilities.org NEWS RELEASE Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities Department Nov. 1, 2019 Contact: Gale Ketteler, Public Information Officer, 336-747-7414, gketteler@citvofws.org Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater General Statute 143-215.1C requires the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a news release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater caused by debris in the line on October 31, 2019 of an estimated 2,125 gallons near 1796 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem. An estimated 1,594 gallons of untreated wastewater was discharged into Salem Creek in the Yadkin -Pee Dee River Basin. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Resources was notified of the event and is reviewing the matter. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities maintains and monitors a 1,785-mile wastewater system and 2,322 miles of water distribution mains. We need your help to prevent sewer overflows and backups in your home and business. Fats, oils and grease are major contributors to overflows. Grease is a factor in approximately 20% of blockages and overflows. No one wants raw sewage in their home and it is important to protect your sewer system and the environment by NOT disposing of these hazards down any drain.
